JUNE 04: The Press Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh has
categorically contradicted the news item appeared in a
section of press that Chief Minister Sindh during his
speech at event of District Bar Association Hyderabad
has said that “in case of long march by lawyers
,the government may be destabilized.” He said that
Chief Minister Sindh has not spoken those words, as he
has commented that “it has been taken decision by
forums of lawyer’s bodies to have long march, but
I think they should consider the measures and actions
taken by present government for the restoration of judges,
in larger interest of the nation.”
The Press Secretary further said that no other reporter
has mislead the people by such fabricated statement but
only two reporters ,one of them was taking notes outside
the district bar hall while the other was not present
at that time, have reported such news.
As such it is clarified that the Chief Minister Sindh
Syed Qaim Ali Shah has never said such words, but has
appreciated the role of lawyers community for the restoration
of democracy in the country and upholding struggle of
lawyers for the restoration of 1973 constitution in its
original shape, he added.

M ATTENDS BRIEFING ABOUT SINDH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.

JUNE 06: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah today attended
a detailed briefing about Sindh Education Department at
Chief Minister House. Addressing the participants of department,
the Chief Minister said that the Education Department is
a nation-building department but this department has been
ignored deliberately to an extent. Syed Qaim Ali Shah maintained
that quality education is dream of our society, for which
teachers, parents and the society has to play positive role
so as to achieve the good results.
Chief Minister Sindh said that present elected government
will not tolerate any negligency on part of programme implementing
authorities and we all have to put concerted efforts to
raise the standard of education in our all educational institutions,
with devotion, care and sincerity.
Chief Minister Sindh stressed that projects assisted by
Donor Agencies be implemented and followed strictly so as
to achieve the goal. He added that better results could
only be achieved, as and when we induct the teachers on
merit without consideration of any political interference.
He said that the future of our coming generation lies in
good quality education thus the recruitment so evolved and
approved, should be followed and implemented in letter and
spirit. Syed Qaim Ali Shah also stressed the need to initiate
some new schemes so as to attract the boys and girls, and
improve rate of literacy in the province. He also stressed
the need to utilize funds properly and achieve the targets.
The Chief Minister Sindh stressed the need of quality of
teaching, training and examination systems be improved in
the larger interest of province. Chief Minister Sindh said
that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhuto announced election manifesto
with 5-E programme and education was on second number under
priority. He maintained that Present Government hoped that
result oriented policies should be implemented. Senior Minister
for Education Pir Mazharul Haq also highlighted the performance
& problems of the department. Sindh Secretary for Education
& Literacy Department Mr. Rizwan Memon presented a detailed
briefing to the Chief Minister Sindh about Education Department.
He gave details about School education, College education,
Technical & Vocational education, Endowment fund, development
outlay and other functionaries.
He informed that the literacy rate of Punjab is 59%, Sindh
is 56%, NWFP is 51% while the literacy rate of Baluchistan
is 34%. He added the enrollment of students from age 5 to
9 years in Sindh is 5.78 millions, out of which enrolment
of Government Schools is 2.83 million and private schools
is 1.19 million while 1.76 million students are out of schools.
He said that there are 3.05 million boys and 2.73 million
girl students in the province.
About educational institutions, the Secretary Education
informed that there are 44500 Primary Schools with 96,234
primary teachers; 2732 middle schools with 9498 teachers;
1796 Secondary & High Secondary schools with 32997 teachers
while there are 239 Colleges in the province with 3293 teachers.
He informed that 4.4 million children of class I to X were
provided free text books and 0.3 million girls of class
VI to X were provided stipend.
He further said that rehabilitation of schools in partnership
with District Government was started at a cost of Rs.100/-
million per each district, work to open 1300 viable closed
schools in partnership of private sector/local NGO’s
has been under taken.
It was further informed that 34386 institutions have no
electricity, 25237 institutions have no water facility,
23349 have no toiled, 26,669 have no boundary wall, where
there are 12270 no roomed schools, 11,122 with one-roomed,14681
with two rooms and 1,841 with three rooms (the total number
of Schools is 49,028). Mr. Nizwan Memon further informed
that there are 239 Colleges in Sindh, out of them 143 are
Male Colleges while there are 96 female colleges.
Besides, there are 3-Cadet Colleges and a number of Public
Schools while BCs (Bachelor of Computer Science) classes
have been introduced in 16 Government Colleges in Sindh
and post graduate classes have been proposed for 28 Colleges,
he said. The Secretary Education further informed that there
are 1,64,456 male and 1,10,729 female students in Colleges
of Sindh.
The meeting was informed that there are 27,603 vacancies
in Education Department for various posts while about 10,000
new posts have been got approved in SNE.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Mr. M.B Khatian,
Officers of Education Department and Secretary to Chief
Minister Mr. Sohail Akbar Shah.
